Motorized Miniature MR-73
As the title says, it's a motorized miniature MR-73 made out of 110lb cardstock paper, colored construction paper and parts from Addison Électronique.
The project is quite complex so don't hold me liable if you bought everything and couldn't complete it. Also, I am not sponsored by or affiliated to Addison Électronique, I am only giving their links since that's where I got most of my parts and I think it would be simpler to get all the necessary parts in one location.
Here's the parts list:
- 9 sheets of 110lb cardstock paper
- Sheets of colored construction paper (including blue, white and other colors if needed)
- Printed reference papers (2 motor cars, 1 trailer car)
- Circuit diagram
- Pair of scissors (although less precise than utility knives, they don't risk tearing the cardstock paper)
- Hot glue and its gun
- Any liquid glue that can stick to 110lb cardstock paper solidly without making a mess (e.g. tacky glue, PVA glue a.k.a. school glue)
- Krylon UV-resistant clear gloss artist spray (optional, but highly recommended to make sure the finished product doesn't deteriorate. Just make sure to use it carefully as it might ruin the shell if applied in high quantities or very closely)
- Toothpicks or similar (to apply small quantities of liquid glue to the cardstock shell during assembly to reduce the risks of warping)
- Glue stick (to glue the construction paper onto the cardstock paper shell to prevent warping)
- 2 3-6VDC geared motors capped at 100 RPM or similar
- 3 10kΩ ¼W resistors
- 1-3 1kΩ ¼W resistor(s) (qty depends on how many piezo buzzers are used)
- 3 100Ω ¼W resistors
- 1-3 piezo buzzer(s) (any piezo buzzer that works at 6V should be fine; qty depends on how many cars will have it to play the door chime; I got mine from a broken weight scale from Walmart so I'm not sure what model it is)
- 3 IRLZ44N MOSFETs or similar (unfortunately I couldn't find those at Addison Électronique, so I had to resort to Amazon)
- 1 IDUINO Nano 328P R3 microcontroller board or similar
- 1 battery holder for 4 AA cells with wire or similar capable of providing ≥6V
- 2 1N4001 diodes or similar
- 1 Iduino infrared remote controller with receiver or similar
- 2 meters of wire with low resistance for the motors (I personally used 2C 22 AWG CCA speaker wires)
- Soldering iron, solder and anything required to connect the parts and wires together (you can even use terminal blocks or jumper wires with breadboards if you want to)
